Run Jailbreak Apps without Jailbreaking.

With the iPhone 3.0 OS and the AppStore, the reasons to jailbreak have dwindled, but there is one app that I always Jailbreak for. Qik is a video recording app that lets you stream your videos to Qik.com, it has always been my favorite video recording app because with an 8GB iPhone and 7GB of Music, there really isn’t much room for videos, Qik however stores them on their servers. However, with the iPhone 3.0 OS Betas, it has been hard to keep up with all of the Jailbreaking hacks. In this tutorial, I will show you how to install Qik on a non Jailbroken device.

Some Requirements:

    Computer with Mac OS X

  • Must have a iPhone Developer account.
  • Erica Sadun’s signit.sh script which can be found here (Right Click Save As)
  • The Qik application here.

Step 1: Download the signit.sh and Qik.app.zip, and unzip the Qik.app.zip, put these files on your desktop
Step 2: Open terminal and type this in

cd Desktop

Followed by

chmod +x signit.sh

Still in terminal

./signit.sh Qik

Step 3: Make sure the code is signed, right click on the Qik.app, show package contents and confirm the “_CodeSignature” folder.
Step 4: Drop the Qik.app into iTunes and Sync your iPhone
Step 5: Enjoy, you now have Qik on a non-jailbroken iPhone.

Note: Not all of the functionality will work, Qik won’t be able to run in the background for more than 15 seconds, and it won’t be able to read your text message to confirm your phone for new accounts.

Make sure you have a wildcard provisional profile and a valid iphone dev cert.

For me, signit works but I have an error message when Sync’ing iTunes and the iPhone. I also have a valid iphone dev certificate (for instance, I can compile and run HelloWorld from XCode to my iPhone). However I don’t know how to create a wildcard provisional profile: could you help with the steps?
